Rename Mylyn Top Level Project Proposal
This document is a proposal to rename the Mylyn Top Level Project.
Mylyn the technology vs. Mylyn the project
- Mylyn exists as a set of Eclipse projects which are producing software which can be installed in Eclipse.
- Mylyn exists as an Eclipse top-level project which is supposed to provide a common home for Eclipse projects building software in/for the ALM space
Problem Statement
- The Mylyn top-level project failed to attract ALM related projects at Eclipse
- EGit, Subversive, Hudson
- Some existing contributors do not want to use Mylyn technology and do not want to be hosted under the Mylyn brand

Proposal
Mylyn the top-level project will be renamed to Lifecycle Tools (LT), dropping the Mylyn brand. Participation in ALM is not about adopting the Mylyn technology. Each participating project is expected to nominate a representative to the Lifecycle Tools PMC. Representative are expected to participate in all PMC activities except self-managing the projects they represent.
